Intermittent fasting is exactly what it sounds like, taking a deliberate break from food at a prescribed time of day (or in some cases, over a full day or several days). There are lots of different reasons to fast. Some are based in religion of course, but more and more we are seeing people turn to intermittent fasting for health. This is increasingly backed by science. While Buddha’s Diet focuses on overall health and weight loss, researchers are seeing promise in treatment and management of disease.

The New York Times writes, “Valter Longo, the director of the Longevity Institute at the University of Southern California, initially studied fasting in mice that showed that two to five days of fasting each month reduced biomarkers for diabetes, cancer and heart disease. The research has since been expanded to people, and scientists saw a similar reduction in disease risk factors.”

It may help with breast cancer recurrence, as well as help to stave off Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease. There will likely be other benefits as more studies are done.

Of course, we aren’t here to cure cancer. We simply want you help you lose pounds, feel better, and use the steps and rules of Buddha’s Diet, to mindfully find a new pattern of eating you can carry with you for life.

There are lots of different intermittent fasting styles. But we like something the Buddha practiced – the “middle way”. By weaving Buddha’s wisdom with this new science, we have created Buddha’s Diet.
